What Is Purpose Of Early Childhood Education? Why It's So Important
The NIH asserts that ECE leads to higher test scores for students from preschool through age 21, improved grades in math and reading, and stronger odds that students will keep going to school and attend college. A study was conducted by the Aga Khan Development Network's Madrasa Early Childhood Programme on the impact that early childhood education had on students’ performance in grade school. Looking specifically at students who attended the Madrasa Early Childhood schools , the study found that they had consistently ranked in the top 20% in grade 1 classes. The study also concluded that any formal early childhood education contributed to higher levels of cognitive development in language, mathematics, and non-verbal reasoning skills. By providing education in a child's most formative years, ECE also has the capacity to pre-emptively begin closing the educational achievement gap between low and high-income students before formal schooling begins. Children of low socioeconomic status often begin school already behind their higher SES peers; on average, by the time they are three, children with high SES have three times the number of words in their vocabularies as children with low SES.

Masters Programs
In order to improve breastfeeding rates in Djibouti, community-based programs for awareness raising were implemented in 2007. Prior to program intervention, qualitative research was conducted in order to identify factors linked to low breastfeeding rates and ‘key actors’ likely to be able to influence new mothers. Based on results from the study, grandmothers were invited to participate in the program as trainees and, subsequently, trainers, in order to solve issues around social norms and values that might impede breastfeeding. Teaching practice can be held in public and private elementary schools, and preschools. “We have a lot of scientific data about brain development at this age, but there is a huge gap between figuring out what young brains need to thrive and actually making policies or funding programs based on that information,” Dr. Negussie shares.
This course focuses on the unique role of the educator, childcare issues distinctive to this age and the curriculum that can be designed to accommodate them. You will use play theory to design developmentally appropriate early learning indoor and outdoor play environments. The course content provides an introduction to approaches in design that support Indigenous ways of knowing and diversity. You will plan a curriculum which includes intercultural experiences and environments that will encourage the holistic development of infants and toddlers. You will study and practice positive skills to develop effective relationships in ECE environments. This course provides opportunities to identify personal strengths and practice conflict resolution skills.
Incredibly, it will double in size by the child’s first birthday and will have completed 90 percent of its growth by age five. During the early childhood years, the brain is making millions of synapses every second. These neural connections allow us to move, think, communicate and comprehend the world around us. The fact that all of these skills can be developed without homework or tests is still difficult for some adults to believe. “There are always parents who don’t understand that children learn best when they have the option to do so in a manner that is pleasurable,” Dr. Negussie explains.
While the problem is more intractable in developing countries, the developed world still does not equitably provide quality early childhood care and education services for all its children. In many European countries, children, mostly from low-income and immigrant families, do not have access to good quality early childhood care and education. In recent decades, studies have shown that early childhood education is critical in preparing children to enter and succeed in the classroom, diminishing their risk of social-emotional mental health problems and increasing their self-sufficiency later in their lives. In other words, the child needs to be taught to rationalize everything and to be open to interpretations and critical thinking. There is no subject to be considered taboo, starting with the most basic knowledge of the world that they live in, and ending with deeper areas, such as morality, religion and science.
In Pennsylvania, all early education teachers in public schools must hold a bachelor’s degree and state certification. Nonpublic schools, including religiously affiliated schools, have their own degree and certification requirements. These degree requirements are for teachers in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. You’ll be charged with building the foundation of the youngest learners; all future teachers will build upon the foundation you lay. Because of that, it’s important that you understand the early childhood education degree requirements in the state in which you plan to work.
Participation in ECE, however, has been proven to increase high school graduation rates, improve performance on standardized tests, and reduce both grade repetition and the number of children placed in special education. You will demonstrate your ability to build positive and responsive relationships with children and adults. You will use your observation skills to plan and prepare a culturally relevant emergent curriculum based on children’s interests and family engagement.

Expanding Early Childhood Education: How States And Districts Can Use Federal Recovery Funds Strategically
You teach them how to share, how to take turns, how to have manners--lessons that stay with them and evolve with each crucial phase of their life. Despite increasing public interest in early childhood education, preschools are still generally considered private schools. Many are funded by tuition and donations, and because the government does not mandate preschool, it is considered an option for families. However, the evidence of the lasting effects of preschool has prompted some government action.
Although Vygotsky predated social constructivists, he is commonly classified as one. Social constructivists believe that an individual's cognitive system is a resditional learning time. Vygotsky advocated that teachers facilitate rather than direct student learning. Teachers should provide a learning environment where students can explore and develop their learning without direct instruction. It is important to do this because students' levels of interest and abilities will vary and there needs to be differentiation. Early childhood program administrators are responsible for a broad range of tasks, requiring many different competencies.47 First, programs need instructional leaders with a solid understanding of child development and teaching and learning strategies.
This theory ties in with children building off prior knowledge and gaining new knowledge related to skills they already have. In the theory it describes how new knowledge or skills are taken in if they are not fully learned but are starting to emerge. A teacher or older friend lends support to a child learning a skill, be it building a block castle, tying a shoe, or writing one's name. As the child becomes more capable of the steps of the activity, the adult or older child withdraws supports gradually, until the child is competent completing the process on his/her own.

You will also learn to plan early childhood education curriculums for a variety of levels, and will develop your writing and communication skills to work with children, parents, and members of the education and teaching system. Children need a physical setting—both inside and outdoors—where they can play, explore, and learn safely. The learning environment needs to include engaging and developmentally appropriate materials and be arranged to promote independence and exploration based on children’s different stages of development. For example, infants need to interact with their environment in a very physical way, examining cause and effect relationships by touching and feeling objects.
